Ghorepani Poonhill Trek: 4 days Trek

The Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is one of the most beautiful routes everyone should trek once in their lifetime. The trek is also famously known as the Annapurna Sunrise Trek, as we can see the breathtaking sunrise view on the mountain. It is a short trek trip around the Annapurna region. This trek is recommended for every age group. History of Ghorepani Poonhill

The actual translation of the Ghorepani is “Water for Horses” in English. In the early days this route served as the stop point for the traders travelling from the Nepal to Tibet carrying mostly the essential goods for their daily livelihood. Mostly they carry salt, spices and other goods using the horse and mules, so this place acts as the place to take some break and water for the horse and mules. It is not recorded anywhere the exact date of these place as the place for traders to stop.

Rise of Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking

The development of the trekking in Ghorepani route is likely began from the mid 20s century although the exact date is not written or recorded anywhere. It is believed that the mountaineers and early explorer might have discovered this route as one of the most recreational trekking route.

The main reason of rising this route as the one of the most famous trekking route of Nepal is the panoramic view of the Himalayas. This is the unique selling point of the rise of this trek. The sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range melts the hearts of the many local and international tourism. Also the increase of the local tourism in this area make the trek very famous among the people.

Day 01: Pokhara-Nayapul-Ulleri

1950m- approx. 5 hours

For the 5-day trek to the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, we start our trek from Pokhara. The trek begins after we reach Birethati Nayapul from Pokhara via Jeep or bus after the 2-hour drive. Then we will start our trek from Nayapul to Ulleri village, enjoying the greenery of rice fields, the traditional village of the Magar community, and epic mountains and hills. Ulleri village is one of the most beautiful villages you will find on the entire route of the Ghorepani Poonhill trek. The trekkers have to climb an altitude of 900 m from Nayapul to Ulleri village. The Ulleri village is at an altitude of 1950m. The average time to reach Ulleri Village from Nayapul is about 5 hours.

Day 02: Trek to Ghorepani

2874m- approx. 6 hours

On day 2, we have to start our trek early in the morning, starting with a slightly steep, stone-paved route for about an hour or more to reach the Upper Ulleri village. Here in this village, we find the traditional Nepali village with the stone-slaved rooftop. While trekking on this route, you can find enough rhododendron trees that touch the hearts of every trekker with the beauty of the national flower of Nepal. We can also cross the ample pine forest area to reach the top of Ghorepani Village. Here in this village, you can find the Nepali traditional Poon society, which is kind and sweet.

Day 03: Hike to Poonhill and Trek down to Tadapani

On the 3rd day, we have to catch the breathtaking view of the sunrise climbing to the top of the Poonhill. The sunrise view from the top of the Poonhill will captivates the hearts of many. The array of the sunlight falling on the Dhaulagiri – world 7th highest peak, Annapurna- world 10th highest peak, Manaslu – world 10th highest peak, and the Machhapurna (fish tail) mountains peak will be stunning in the white snow. After enjoying the view, now you can head back to the Ghorepani passing the cool pine forest enjoying the nature. You can trek uphill and downhill to reach the Tadapani and ends the days by staying there.

Day 04: Trek to Ghandruk and back to Pokhara

After enjoying the stunning view of the Tadapani village now you are ready to enjoy yet another beautiful, and popular Ghandruk Village. The trek now is simple and very easy. On Ghandruk village you can find the another tribe of Nepal i.e. Gurung. The place is famous for the authentic Gurung Village. The Ghandruk village is another beautiful village you will see in your life. After having lunch in the authentic Gurung village, you can head back to Pokhara via Jeep or other vehicle.

  • Weather :  The weather in the Himalayas can be unpredictable. Be prepared for rain, wind, and cold temperatures, especially during the early mornings and always listen to your hstnpl guide.
